Thule Urban Glide Review: Is This the Right Stroller for You?

Are you looking for a running stroller that fits all of your needs as a mom and a runner? Well today, we’re going to take a look at one of the most popular running strollers on the market today – the Thule Urban Glide Stroller. In order to help you with your choice, we’ve written this Thule Urban Glide review. We’re going to look at some of its main features, talk about its strong and weak points and in the end, see if the stroller is really worth your money or not.

Thule Urban Glide Overview

Thule, the company that manufactures this particular stroller was founded way back in 1942 by Erik Thulin. In the beginning, the company only manufactured products for local fisherman, but after a few years, they started making products for outdoor enthusiasts.

Today, they manufacture everything from luggage boxes to roof racks. They’ve been expanding their quality products for more than 70 years at this point, including the fairly recent edition of jogging strollers, which seem to be more popular than ever.

thule urban glide review

As noted on Thule’s official website, this is a stroller designed for young, active parents who value durability and performance. The urban Glide has three air-filled tires that provide a smooth ride for your child and allow you to maneuver it without any difficulties.

Just like any other review mentions, possibly the biggest benefit of this stroller is its weight. With only 23 lbs. It’s one of the lightest joggers on the market, and it can be pushed with just one finger.

In comparison, the ever-popular BOB Revolution Pro weighs more than 30 lbs.

The stroller has plenty of storage, which can be quite handy when you’re off to a quick jog in the morning. Your outfit probably doesn’t have a lot of pockets, but the stroller will allow you to carry all of your essentials, including your wallet, phone, baby bottle, and a few other items as well.

Thule Urban Glide also has an adjustable handlebar, a big canopy that provides full coverage and a deep recline suitable for children up to 74 lbs. In addition, the stroller has a one-hand, standing fold, which allows parents to fold it in a matter of seconds.

While we’ve just started with our review, you already see that we have a positive opinion about it. While it has more than a few great features, we should take a closer look at them in order to examine the stroller properly.

Thule Urban Glide Features

The Canopy

When you’re out for a jog, good coverage is pretty important. The Thule Urban Glide has a two-panel canopy and a pop-out sun visor that can be tucked away when needed. Also, it has a “follow-the-sun” option that allows to keep your child in the shade throughout the day. Furthermore, you also have small “peekaboo widow” for your child, which allows your child to enjoy its surroundings during the jog.

The window is made of see-through plastic and has a secure magnetic closure.

The Handlebar

The adjustable handlebar is also one of the main advantages of this stroller. It goes from 39 to 45 degrees, which makes it great for both shorter and taller people. It’s covered in foam, and its position allows your hands to fall into a neutral position while running. The safety strap can be moved from left to right, unlike other strollers that the right-side-only straps. The foam-covered handle is pretty comfortable, however, since it absorbs sweat, it’s still harder to clean than a rubber one. This may be a problem for people that sweat a lot.

The Baby-Seat

The baby-seat is 15 inches wide and has a 21-inch seat back. Overall, it measures 25 inches from top to bottom. This size is great for toddlers and older children alike. Even in the upright position, the seat is slightly reclined. However, the seat doesn’t recline too much, so your child should be able to sit properly in it. It also has a padded leg test that transitions to a footrest. The one-handed adjustment system allows you to modify the seat position effortlessly. Last but not least, the seat has a vent area at the top for additional airflow, which can also be covered if the weather gets cold.

The Safety System

Of course, a good jogging stroller needs to allow you to run and your baby to have a comfortable and a safe journey. Therefore, a good stroller needs a good safety system, and this is an area where the Urban Glide excels. You have an adjustable, five-point harness system, with two release buttons on the buckle. The buckle is easy for you to open, but hard for a toddler. In order to open the belt-buckle, you need to push the two buttons and squeeze the sides at the same time. Your toddler won’t be able to accomplish this seemingly simple task. There’s no sudden escaping from the seat.

The Storage

We have already mentioned the storage space earlier in our review, but let’s talk about it in more detail. For starters, you have a big mesh pocket in the back of the seat. You can store your accessories and essentials there. There are also two smaller pockets inside of the seat, where you can store your child’s snacks.

And below the seat, you have a large basket, perfect for diapers, baby clothes, etc. The basket has a nice Velcro cover that prevents anything from falling out of it while you’re jogging. There’s also a zipper pocket in the back of the Thule Glide stroller for smaller accessories.

The Brake System

The brake system is also pretty important because your child needs to be safe and sound if you need to make a sudden stop. The Thule Urban Glide has single action breaks that are easy to set and release with a big wire pedal in the middle of the rear axle. The wire paddle is sandal-friendly, so if you decide to take a walk instead of a jog, you won’t have to worry about your sandal getting stuck in it. We should still note that the break leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to design, because it looks a bit out of place on this modern-looking stroller.

The Car Seat Compatibility

Thule Urban Glide is compatible with a good number of carriers, which allow you to walk your baby in the stroller while the child still too young for jogging. The company has a universal adapter that works with the majority of popular brands on the market. But you have to buy it separately. You can find a full compatibility list on Thule’s official website– the list comes in a PDF file – if you want to know more information about it.

The Ease-Of-Use

As we said before, the Urban Glide is pretty easy to assemble and disassemble. We should remark that the average build time is around five minutes. It doesn’t require any tools to assemble, and thanks to the detailed Thule Urban Glide manual, you’ll be able to understand everything as soon as you take it out of the box.

In fact, you’ll likely spend three minutes unpacking the parts, and two minutes actually assembling the stroller.

The Maneuverability

Lastly, a good jogging stroller needs to be able to move over different terrains easily. Lack of maneuverability is often a deal-breaker for most people. The swivel wheel in the front allows you to navigate tight spaces and makes pushing on flat surfaces a breeze. What’s more, the stroller has pneumatic tires, a rear-wheel suspension and a sling-style seat that gives your child a comfortable experience. The shocks in the back make it a bit jumpy when going down curbs. However, the handlebar will keep you standing straight and allow you to have more control over the stroller.

Thule Urban Glide Pros and Cons

  • It has all the features one needs in a jogger stroller, but it’s still cheaper than most top-of-the-line strollers on the market
  • The rear suspension and larger tires will help you feel completely confident in your child’s safety, no matter the trail
  • It’s possibly the lightest stroller you can buy today, so naturally, it’s more than easy to fold-up and carry around
  • If the front wheel starts pulling, the adjustable tracking system allows you to set it for more stable jog
  • It has several large pockets on the side and a neat, waterproof pouch that allows you to bring all of your essentials on your jogs
  • The stroller has a rather sleek feel to it, it’s not bulky as some other jogging stroller, and it has comfortable, ergonomic handlebars
  • It has a reclining seat and a waterproof cover, which means your baby will be able to sleep comfortably even in bad weather
  • You’ll be able to use for a long, long time, since it has a high weight-limit, plus it comes with a lifetime warranty

  • Although the wheels are high-quality, they still make a lot of noise, so you have to learn how to tune the noise out
  • Moreover, while tires work good on off-road trails, they, unfortunately, don’t maintain air as long as they do on standard trails
  • The break certainly begs for some design work, because it just looks outdated on such a modern jogging stroller
  • There’s no auto-lock, so while you can fold the stroller with one hand, you have to lock it with the other one, which can be inconvenient
  • Possibly the biggest disadvantage of the Urban Glide is the lack of accessories included with the stroller
  • The manufacturer actually offers additional accessories, however, you have to buy them separately, which means spending more money in the end
