If you’re reading this blog, it’s probably because your life is about to be happily turned upside down with the birth of a baby (or two!). Maybe you’re here as someone who wasn’t living an active lifestyle prior to your pregnancy and you’re ready to start exercising, or maybe you’re a newly-pregnant workout buff looking for some performance-driven maternity activewear to keep you going throughout each trimester. Either way, you’re here because your life is changing, and change is good.
During pregnancy, it can sometimes be overwhelming how much change is going on. The inside of your body is changing as a tiny human being grows in your belly, the outside of your body is changing to accommodate that little baby’s arrival, and life as you know it is changing all around you to prepare you for the responsibilities and joys of being a mother. So alright, we’ll admit it: change may feel like the enemy at times. However, change is necessary for growth, and it’s working in your favor! For instance, the changes within your body aren’t just steps you’ve read about in a book…they’re little miracles taking place every day. If you’re a first time mother, think about how amazing it is that your body naturally knows how to nurture a developing baby without ever having done it before. For all mothers, think about how magical it is that your body has the ability to grow and nourish another life! Not just any life, but the life of your baby. A baby who is the result of two lives becoming one, who will be born with a personality and skills and talents (and probably the desire to break curfew once or twice but you’ve got quite a while until you need to worry about that!).
With so much natural change going on inside of your body, it’s normal to want to have a little control over the outside change. An active pregnancy helps both you and your baby prepare for a successful pregnancy and delivery, with less recovery time for you afterward. An added bonus: staying in shape throughout your pregnancy means losing the baby weight faster and easier, and the energy your body will feel from regular exercise will help you better survive those sleepless nights!
Change IS good, but when becoming a mother, it’s more than that. Change is a privilege.
