Balancing Priorities

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by fit2bblogger

Priorities. We all have them and we all place them in varying levels of importance.  While many of us often consider a hair appointment to be a priority, it’s probably safe to say that we all share the same major priorities: family, health, and career.

Keeping our major priorities in tip-top shape can be challenging as they often collide with each other: work gets busy so we forget about our health and either eat fast food or don’t eat at all; family needs take precedence and in turn our job gets pushed to the back burner; stress creeps in from every possible corner and takes a toll on our bodies, our loved ones, and our work.

So what’s the key to success in juggling these priorities? Good balance, which is accomplished by excellent time management. A great idea to implement for 2010 is to keep a personal log of your goals and how long it takes you to reach them. A log will allow you to see your progress (or procrastination) in writing, a sure way to encourage you to better manage your internal and external barriers and the time that they consume. In return, your major priorities have a great chance at staying in their best possible condition.

While our top priority right now remains family and health, it is not our own that we’re most concerned with. Instead, our thoughts are with the families in Haiti and the health crisis that they’re currently enduring, among other emergencies. As more devastation from Port-au-Prince comes to light, our hearts go out to those without the basic needs that many of us take for granted. In response, we’ve sent a donation that will be used immediately in order to provide relief to the many Haitians that are suffering. Should you feel compelled to do the same, there are a number of organizations who desperately need your help. Find one that you can donate to at Charity Navigator.
