Baby’s “First” Christmas

Posted on December 14th, 2009 by fit2bblogger

The winter holidays are the time of year for many things: shopping for gifts, attending parties, and decorating your home to reflect the spirit of the season. Although these holiday activities are loads of fun, this is also the time of year for showing love, sharing joy, and giving of yourself to others. What a great joy it is to be an expectant mother at Christmastime! And while there is no better gift to show your love for your unborn child than the gift of good health, we’re naturally drawn to visible symbols of this celebration.

A great way to recognize baby’s “first” holiday is by adding a collectible Christmas ornament to your tree in honor of your unborn child.  Whether your ornament is store bought or homemade, let it symbolize the joy and excitement you feel this holiday season.  I know many moms who have simply laminated their ultrasound photo, strung a ribbon through it, and hung it on their trees!

Friends and family will want to be involved in your celebration, but may be unsure what to give to your unborn baby. Feel free to give them suggestions as to what your needs are, and don’t forget to hang a stocking for baby! Gift-givers can stuff the stocking with teething rings, pacifiers, baby books, baby socks, and other small necessities.

Another meaningful way to celebrate your baby’s “first” Christmas is to make a video for your baby to watch when he/she is older.  Record yourself trimming the tree, especially if you’re adding a commemorative ornament, and videotape a special message to your baby to let him/her know how excited you are for their arrival. Don’t be camera shy! Close the video by recording the opening of any baby gifts that you receive on Christmas day.

If you haven’t yet announced your pregnancy but plan to do so this holiday season, there are many fun ways to do so. One such way is to include a copy of your ultrasound photo in your outgoing Christmas cards. It’s certainly a guarantee that your card will be the most memorable! You might also toast to the pregnancy at a holiday get-together, or mention your thankfulness for your pregnancy over a family dinner. The pregnancy announcement would be a fantastic moment to capture for your baby’s video!

If you’re an expectant mom this holiday season, how do you plan on including your unborn baby in your festivities?
